My father, RM1(SS) Theodore G. Smith was on the blue crew from 1968
to
1975. Then transfered to the gold crew when the boat went to
the shipyards in
Maine in 1975 and was on till 1977 when he hurt his back. I was
hoping that
you would be kind enough to put him on your eternal patrol page for
I am sure
he would have liked that. He was born Feb. 22, 1940 and died
July 2, 2001. The
nickname he was given when he joined the boat was "ball valve."
I am not sure
who gave it to him but, my dad was called that for a long time on the
boat. If
there is anymore information you need I would be happy to get it for
you if I
can and I am planning to get some of his pictures scanned onto disk
and I will
send them to you when I am able. Oh, one more thing he was ships photographer
while he was on and leading radio man as well.
Thank you very much,
Theodore G. Smith Jr.
