Subject: SHIPS BELL< USS HENRY CLAY
Hello,
This may sound odd, or may not. I don't know
if Submarines have ships
bells, or especially if the USS Henry Clay did.
A very close friend of mine has
had a bell, that I am pretty sure is brass
as I sat and polished it for about an hour, and the thing must
weigh about 75
pounds, hanging in her restaurant. Well, the restaurant closed
after 31 years
of business, so I had the pleasure of removing this bell from
the wall.
It was pretty dirty from all the years
of neglect, but the name USS HENRY
CLAY is very nicely engraved on it. I wonder if it is the
real deal. If anyone
has intimate knowledge of the bell, as in had to polish it as part
of their duties,
or recalls any small details about it, I would love to know.
She will most likely be selling the bell and
I wanted to make sure that those
who served aboard the ship would have a crack at picking it up for
themselves.
She is planning to have it appraised I believe.
If anyone has any details or interest please
email me. I am pretty
curious now about its history. I do wish to say thank you to all those
who have
served in our nations Military, it is because of you all that our country
is
free today. Thank you all,
Mike Taylor
