Subj:  Survival during New Construction....

      I went onboard  (Gold  Crew) during new construction 1963, 
surviving on a two story barge. Sweltering in the Summer and freezing 
in the winter.

Finally got commissioned and moved to Charleston. Sad to say, we lost 
Billy Samones (TM1) over the side during first trials after drydock 
in Rota, Spain.

Got tooo fat on five meals a day, had to leave the boat in 1965 for 
new territory. Great crew, good friends all...thanks for the memories.
 

I was a SINS field engineer and worked on the 625 during its Poseidon 
Conversion at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1976.  I would be interested if 
anyone has pictures of the Clay or the Navigation Center for my personal 
collection.
